Children Health

Children with disabilities in the Democratic Republic of Congo face numerous challenges in their daily lives. Limited access to quality healthcare and education further exacerbates their already difficult circumstances. Many children with disabilities are excluded from mainstream schools, which limits their opportunities for social interaction and learning. Additionally, the lack of specialized support services and infrastructure hinders their ability to fully participate in society. Discrimination and stigma are also prevalent, leading to further marginalization and isolation. Despite these challenges, there are organizations and individuals working tirelessly to improve the lives of these children. Efforts are being made to increase accessibility to healthcare, education, and support services, as well as to raise awareness and promote inclusion. It is crucial to continue advocating for the rights and well-being of children with disabilities in the Democratic Republic of Congo and ensure they have equal opportunities for a brighter future

Malnutrition is one of the major concerns in the Democratic republic of Congo, with a high prevalence of stunting and underweight children. Diseases such as malaria, respiratory infections, and diarrhea are also prevalent, leading to high morbidity and mortality rates among children. The lack of clean water and sanitation facilities further exacerbates the health situation, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases. Limited vaccination coverage leaves children vulnerable to preventable diseases like measles and polio. Inadequate healthcare infrastructure, shortage of trained medical personnel, and political instability aggravate the situation. A2CC promotes nutrition programs, facilitates access to clean water and sanitation facilities.

Endless wars in the Democratic Republic of Congo have had a devastating impact on children's education especially in the eastern part of the country. With ongoing conflicts and destructions, schools have been destroyed, teachers displaced, and resources depleted. This has resulted in a significant decline in the quality of education and a decrease in enrollment rates. With the current M23 war, many children have been forced to drop out of school to escape the violence or to help support their families financially. Those who do manage to attend school often face overcrowded classrooms and a lack of essential learning materials. The war has robbed children of the opportunity to receive a proper education, hindering their future prospects and perpetuating a cycle of poverty and instability. A2CC strives to provide the necessary support to ensure that all children have access to education.

Girls discrimination in the Democratic Republic of Congo is a pervasive issue that hinders their access to education, healthcare, and equal opportunities. Many girls are forced into early marriages, denied their right to education, and subjected to gender-based violence. The deeply-rooted cultural norms and traditional beliefs contribute to the perpetuation of gender inequality. Additionally, the ongoing conflict in the country has further exacerbated the challenges faced by girls, leading to increased rates of child labor, displacement, and sexual exploitation. Efforts are being made by organizations and activists to address these issues and empower girls, but more needs to be done to create a society that values and protects the rights of all its members. Only by breaking the cycle of discrimination can girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo have a chance to thrive and reach their full potential.

AREAS OF INVOLVEMENT

Child Labor

These young individuals are engaged in various sectors such as mining, agriculture, and domestic work, where they are subjected to exploitative practices and deprived of their rights and childhood. An estimated 40,000 Congolese children are working in non-regulated artisanal mines alone under hazardous conditions. The prevalence of child labor hinders the development of these children, denying them access to education and trapping them in a cycle of poverty. A2CC promotes initiatives aimed at eradicating child labor and providing support to affected children.

Community Mobilization

Through various initiatives and programs, A2CC aims to empower parents, caregivers, and educators to better understand the needs and rights of children. By providing them with the necessary tools and knowledge, A2CC empowers them to actively participate in the child's education and overall development. Additionally, community mobilization allows us to identify and address any challenges or barriers that children are facing in the community.
